Situated in Caldas, Colombia, the specialty-coffee farm Café Tío Conejo hosted 24 espresso professionals—every of whom had received a Barista League competitors in 2023 or 2024—for every week this previous September for the Thriller Espresso Trip 2024. (See web page 34 of the December 2024 + January 2025 challenge of Barista Journal to see a photograph essay concerning the journey.) This all-expenses-paid journey to Colombia was the baristas’ prize for profitable their regional Barista League competitors.
Individuals traveled from Canada, Norway, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic, the UK, the USA, and from Bogotá, Colombia, to hitch the journey that may see them harvesting and milling espresso, swapping brewing methods, collaborating in enjoyable challenges, bonding behind Jeeps, and assembly the locals in Manizales. They had been hosted by the nice and cozy, welcoming, and gregarious household that owns Café Tío Conejo: Ivanov Castellanos; his spouse Ángela Suarez; their daughter, Emilia Castellanos; Ivanov’s mom, Esperanza Cardenas; and their prolonged household.
